A Branded PC is one that is manufactured by a company that is recognized by name. It will be a reputed company.
Advantages : -
1) Customer Support If you were experiencing problems with your computer, you will have an option to contact a representative of the company that you purchased your PC from, to get help in solving your problem.
2) Warranty - Having a warranty is always a nice security blanket for you.
In case a part of your computer fails, you should be able to get the item fixed at no charge provided the warranty has not expired.
3) Pre-installed software - Many companies will include software packages that are all set up and ready to begin.
Although, there is a disadvantage here too. You generally end up with pre-installed software that more than fits your needs and usually results in wastage of disk space and other resources (if they are running in the background).
4) Additional Support - Most branded computer companies are also able to provide web sites that may provide you with the latest patches and software updates needed for your computer.
Disadvantages -
1) Use of proprietary parts - It refers to the products that are unique to that company only.
So if a part malfunctions after your warranty and you need to replace it, you will not be able to find that part at your local computer store.
You will be forced to buy the exact same OLD product for a premium price.
Also, having to purchase this, you wont be able to find it even in their stores. So you will have to order it and then wait for a long time for it to arrive.
Or you will have to send your entire computer to the authorized dealer for that company.
2) Integrated on-board parts - Usually, these Branded PCs come with onboard sound and graphics. They wont have room for an expansion slot. That means if you have a damaged onboard graphics, you cannot replace it. And if its unrepairable, you will have to change the entire motherboard just for a damaged graphic media accelerator.
